Mais imaginons que nous devions \u00e9voluer pour vivre dans un environnement diff\u00e9rent ou grandir autrement, par exemple sans passer par la pubert\u00e9 ou en restant adolescents toute notre vie. Devrions-nous alors modifier la taille et la forme de nos muscles ? Ou bien nos muscles s'apparentent-ils davantage \u00e0 un syst\u00e8me \u00ab universel \u00bb adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 de nombreux environnements ou \u00e0 de multiples fa\u00e7ons de grandir?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">C'est la question que nous avons pos\u00e9e \u2014 mais pour les salamandres ! \u2014 dans <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1093\/icb\/icag040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">notre article de recherche publi\u00e9 en mai 2026 dans la revue Integrative &amp; Comparative Biology<\/a>. Apr\u00e8s avoir recueilli des donn\u00e9es sur 25 esp\u00e8ces de salamandres et les avoir soumises \u00e0 des analyses statistiques \u00e9volutives, nous avons constat\u00e9 que, chez les salamandres, les muscles ne constituent pas un syst\u00e8me universel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les salamandres qui sont pass\u00e9es d\u2019un mode de vie aquatique \u00e0 un mode de vie terrestre poss\u00e9daient des muscles diff\u00e9rents de ceux des salamandres qui sont rest\u00e9es toute leur vie dans un seul et m\u00eame milieu. Les salamandres qui passent par un stade larvaire avant d\u2019atteindre l\u2019\u00e2ge adulte avaient des muscles diff\u00e9rents de ceux des salamandres qui, soit sautent le stade larvaire, soit conservent toute leur vie l\u2019apparence d\u2019une salamandre larvaire. Enfin, les salamandres qui vivent sur terre \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge adulte poss\u00e9daient des muscles diff\u00e9rents de ceux des salamandres qui vivent dans l'eau \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge adulte. Les salamandres adultes aquatiques avaient d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 les muscles les plus puissants et les plus volumineux : il faut en effet beaucoup de force et de puissance musculaires pour ouvrir la bouche sous l'eau afin de cr\u00e9er une succion, tandis que les salamandres terrestres peuvent se contenter de muscles moins d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette \u00e9tude sugg\u00e8re que la taille et la forme des muscles chez les animaux doivent s'adapter, ou du moins varier en fonction de nombreux aspects de notre mode de vie en tant qu'animaux, notamment les environnements dans lesquels nous vivons et m\u00eame la mani\u00e8re dont nous grandissons et atteignons la maturit\u00e9.
